Since we have been covering the Bixby Residence here and here, I thought I would go ahead and add this vintage exterior photo of the rarely seen Garden Facade of the house. The cantilevered balcony on the right is much more visible from this view.

Great post! I understand J.C. Nichols built the house for the Bixbys. I had heard that Tanner the designer of record was awkward with the modern style the Bixby's expressed interest in, subsequently bringing in Webber to design the interiors but definitely influencing the architecture. As far as I know Tanner never did another house like it... Rumor also has it that a "knowing" New York designer came to town and bought all the furniture during redecorating, making a small fortune reselling the pieces.
